Water, Rebecca

January 19, 2007

From an upcoming river-themed collaboration with Chicago friend and artist par-excellence, Victor Van Bramer. Let’s get biblical.

Water, Rebecca

(at times)
I approach the river
(at times)
like it’s the same
river but flipped so it’s
actually a well and
I’m an expectant Eliezer beside it
parched and insignificant.

I’ve come to ferry her to her beloved
all her beloveds
but she has the raft: on this river
it’s actually a bucket.

In the sun a scent of cumin rises
from the sand, the desert now
an eternal arid sachet
and overcome I call out to her
“Water, Rebecca!” from
mere margins of narrative
